At my last annual physical I weighed 260 pounds and the doctor sent me to get a sleep study because I was snoring and not getting any rest. They prescribed a “C-PAP” machine to wear while I slept. I hated it.
Yesterday I went back for a “check-up”. When he asked me how it was going I told him I had been working out since August 29th, I’d lost over 25 pounds and I had not used the machine since the fall. My doctor was pleased, to say the least.
Since I started CrossFit at Focused Fitness I’ve come a long way. My performance has improved a good bit but diet is something I’ve had a tough time with. I have never thought very much about what I was eating. Most of what I know about nutrition has been learned in the last 6 months. I tried The Zone for two weeks and I really felt great and improved my performance in the gym but it was difficult to keep up with the proper weights and measurements while maintaining my work schedule. I just couldn’t see how that diet was sustainable for me.
But the Paleo Lockdown in April was very helpful. It’s simple enough to remember what you can and can’t have and I can stay within the rules without very much of a hassle at restaurants. When I don’t have a lunch meeting with a client it’s easy to have an apple, some nuts and a few slices of lean deli meat. I am leaner and stronger than I was before the lockdown. I feel better overall and I can tell the difference in my performance when I eat something I’m not supposed to have.
I may not reach the same level of performance on the Paleo diet as I would with a more disciplined Zone diet but eating Paleo, using a multi-vitamin and fish oil is such an improvement from the path I was on that I’m still very pleased with the change.
I will be 39 next month. Instead of dreading turning 40 next year, I’m looking forward to being in the best shape of my life. I’m very thankful that I met you and have been able to train with you. Your lessons on goals and the “warrior spirit” have been an incredibly positive motivator for me to keep going in the right direction. Thank you very much for the planning and preparation you put into our workouts and for the time that you spend measuring and recording our progress. I really appreciate the difference it has made.

Billy, For myself dieting has been a way of life since my pre-teens – that’s a long time. Paleo has been the easiest and most successful of all. In 30 days I lost 14lbs. that usually would take 2 months or more. The best part of Paleo is it’s easy to continue. I lost weight, have more energy, sleeping better at night and I have been able to maintain my strength as well as improve in other areas, all in 30 days. Now I am learning how to keep the Paleo way of eating and occasionally enjoy some of the restricted foods along the way.
Thanks Billy for introducing me to Paleo.
Sincerely,
Lynn Levy
I have been on the Paleo Lockdown since about the third week of March and I am still on it. It was tough at first, but once I got used to not eating bread and dairy products, it has gotten better. I feel a lot better and have lost 14 lbs. I need to add that I had given up drinking diet Pepsi the first of January and I am sure that has been a factor in my losing the weight as well as the Paleo. I plan to continue on the Paleo and try to lose more weight, so keep me motivated!
Thanks,
Pat
My Success Story
When I started working out with Billy some 6 years ago, I weighed 260 lbs and was wearing a size 40 pants almost. I had gone from 189 lbs in high school to 260 lbs. I didn’t feel very well and sure didn’t feel good about myself. While working out with Billy I slowly lost down to 220 lbs, and then to 217 lbs, where I stayed for several years. I had become very angry and frustrated as Billy can tell you – we had many a “spirited” conversation about my weight and the fact it wasn’t going down. I tried changing my food some but no progress. A lot of my weight problem was from water weight gain, in which my ankles and wrists would be very tight and swollen. When Billy started the Paleo Lockdown I thought “here’s another diet that won’t work for me – not to mention the seeming hassle it will be to change my eating so drastically”. I finally stopped procrastinating and started 2 1/2 weeks after the other did. By cutting out the sodium and processed foods full of carbs, I have gone from 222 lbs to 207 lbs in 3 weeks and lost at least 1 pants size so far. After losing the 15 lbs I have found that I sleep better, my legs have not been hurting and many of my work out sets seem a lot easier to do. My water weight gain has gone away along with the bloated feeling I dealt with daily. My biggest worry was there wouldn’t be anything worth eating – but I was wrong. It takes a bit more work to fix healthy foods but there are really good things to eat besides pasta, beans, bread and potatoes, which I have started not missing when I eat. My goal is to try for 198-200 lbs. I want to thank Billy for his continual striving to help us look and feel better physically and mentally. I’m glad I took the challenge and strongly urge anyone who battles their weight to give the Paleo Lockdown a try for 30 days. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE!

Hey Billy! I know we talked about my weight loss a little last week when I saw you but I just wanted to thank you and Anna so much for all of your help in helping me get so close to my goal weight…I’m soooooo close! I have now lost 26 pounds since my first work-out with you and am probably the healthiest and strongest I’ve ever been in my adult life. My endurance has increased a ton as well as I am able to run over four miles straight without stopping! I have never been a runner either. It took me a little while to get back into the swing of things after I started working out with you guys and the routine of making working out a high priority in my life but that is a goal I have also reached. I hate it when I can’t work in some sort of workout time each day now! I’m trying to work on toning up more now and still want to lose about 5-7 pounds. Since I don’t see you that much anymore I just wanted to check in with you and give you a status update. Thank you very very much for everything! Vicky
